Tibet Travel Coop Announces 14-day Holy Lhasa Tour

(PRWEB) May 08, 2012

Tibet Travel Coop now offers a 14-day tour through Lhasa, the Yarlung Valley, Gyantse and Shigatse. This spiritual journey traces the footsteps of Buddhist pilgrims, who spend months and years traveling to the many holy sites of central Tibet.

Travelers on the Holy Lhasa tour will visit magnificent monasteries, ancient chortens, sacred mountains, caves and temples, lively bazaars and historic trading towns, the agency announced. Throughout the trip, travelers will meet monks, Lamas, Yogis, nomads and scholars and learn about Buddhist culture. They will participate in meditation, observe rituals, mingle with pilgrims, deeply connect with local people and traditions, and expand their inner horizons.

The tour begins in Lhasa, which is the center of Tibetan commercial and spiritual life, and the most popular destination in Tibet for pilgrims and tourists. The city, established in the 7th century, is located in a valley of the Kyi River, a tributary of the Yarlang Zangbo (known in India as the Brahmaputra). At an altitude of about 3,600 meters, Lhasa is sunny year-round and has a semi-arid climate.

Potala Palace is the symbolic center of Tibetan life. Most visitors will recognize this iconic building from depictions in photos and paintings. It was built by the 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century, and is named for Mt. Potalaka, the heavenly home of Chenrezig, the Buddha of Compassion. The palace has over 1,000 rooms in 13 stories and is the traditional home of the Dalai Lama and the seat of Tibetan government.

In Lhasas old town travelers will discover the ancient Jokhang Temple surrounded by a famous circumambulation route that passes through the bustling Barkhor market. Not far from the city are the Sera and Drepung monasteries, which are two of the three most important religious and scholastic institutions of the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism.

From Lhasa travelers will travel southeast to Samye Monastery and the Yarlung Valley, which are called the cradle of Tibetan civilization. Samye is the oldest monastery in Tibet, and the Yarlung Valley contains many ancient spiritual sites, temples, and the burial mounds of Tibets first kings. Travelers will visit holy sites in the towns of Gyantse and Shigatse, and then ascend to high-altitude Namtso Lake, a holy and pristinely beautiful pilgrimage destination.

Tibet Travel Coop is a collection of Tibetan-owned agencies, tour guides, cooks, drivers and other travel personnel. The organization focuses on sustainable practice, responsible tourism, and keeping local business in the hands of Tibetans. This new tour continues the organizations emphasis on promoting the livelihood of Tibetan communities, and giving travelers authentic experiences of Tibetan culture and way-of-life.

World Happy Day Feb. 11 Launches Global Discussion about Happiness with HAPPY Worldwide Movie Premiere

Los Angeles (PRWEB) January 20, 2012

On World Happy Day, February 11, 2012, premiere screenings of HAPPY, the latest film from Academy Award? nominated director Roko Belic (Genghis Blues), will be held around the globe. People worldwide will unite in venues ranging from large public theaters to community centers, private homes, churches, schools and more.

Our goal is for people all around the world to come together, on the same day, start the conversation about happiness and begin to live healthier, happier, more fulfilling lives, says Belic. Screenings are already scheduled in Cambodia, The Philippines, Brazil, Nepal, India, and several other countries as well as in cities across America. Even Antarctica!

More information can be found at: http://www.worldhappyday.com

The film HAPPY was inspired by a challenge. Executive producer Tom Shadyac (Bruce Almighty, Liar, Liar, Patch Adams) read a New York Times article ranking the U.S. 23rd in happiness. He asked Belic to find out why. Belic investigated questions like,

????What is happiness and where does it come from?
????How do we balance the allure for money, power and social status with our need for strong social relationships, health and personal fulfillment?

Viewers are treated to a global cinematic quest that travels from the bayous of Louisiana to the deserts of Namibia, from the beaches of Brazil to the mountains of Bhutan and beyond. Stories of joy, connection, adversity and courage are interspersed with interviews of several of the worlds leading experts in the science of happiness and well-being.

The desire for happiness is universal, says Belic. The sources are much more common and attainable than many of us believe. It is exciting to share this film and the cutting-edge research with people all over the world. It is even better to know they will be sharing it with each other, too.

HAPPY was developed under the Creative Visions Foundation, a publicly supported 501 (c)(3), which supports creative activists who use the power of media and the arts to affect positive change in the world. The film will be subtitled in English and seven other languages. Those who screen the film will be among the first to own the HAPPY DVD.
